I am interested in being baptized

At The Compass Church, we do baptisms twice a year. The first step in being baptized is to attend one of our baptism classes. Email Jennifer Sonnenschein for more information.

Baptism

Baptism at The Compass Baptism is for those who have personally accepted Jesus as their Savior. At The Compass, we baptize children, young people and adults who acknowledge their faith in Christ and can share their testimony with us.

Believers are baptized because Jesus was and He asked us to follow His example in all things.

"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too" (Luke 3:21).

What is Baptism like? What if I have already been baptized?

The word "baptism" literally means to be immersed. Therefore, when Jesus was baptized He was put completely under the surface of the water from head to toe. So we do the same!

Going down into the water symbolizes us being dead in our sins. Think of it as a picture of Jesus being placed in the tomb after being sacrificed for our sins. Being brought back up from the water is a symbol of believers being made new in Christ - just as Christ was raised from the dead.

Romans 6:4 tells us, “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

We believe baptism is for believers following your personal decision to receive Jesus as your Savior.

"Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day" (Acts 2:41).

This verse teaches that you must accept the message of Jesus Christ first and then be baptized. Baptism does not make one a Christian, only faith in Christ can do that. Therefore, only believers should be baptized.

Sometimes people are baptized without a basic understanding of this truth. Others are baptized as result of their parents' choice and not their own, while some are baptized believing that this act will produce salvation.

In instances like these one should consider being baptized again with full knowledge of what the Bible teaches.

SERVE OPPORTUNITY "Rake-N-Run" Service Event

Looking to SERVE? This opportunity is a favorite among our students!
Saturday, November 10th, 8am – 12:30pm

Rake teams (Jr. High Groups, HS Groups, Adult Small Groups, families, old friends and new friends, etc.) will be running around Naperville, Bolingbrook, Lisle, Downers Grove and Woodridge raking lawns of those that may need additional assistance.

You can be part of this great service event in two ways:

1). Head up or be part of a rake team with a group, family and/or friends and

2). Submit a home address in your neighborhood that would be blessed by a rake team.

A good household to submit would be senior citizen homeowners, single parent homeowners, those that may be sick, disabled, or perhaps a homeowner you know that’s just going through a hard time.

You can register yourself, an entire rake team and/or submit a home address to be raked.

We have the potential of showing God’s love and blessing so many people with this great service event and hope you consider being part of it.

Hobson Campus starts NEW On Campus Small Groups!

Do you enjoy the weekend message? Join a group and talk it over!

Our On-Campus Talk It Over Groups will be meeting October 6 - Nov 4, during all 3 services at Hobson in the Atrium classroom. Come and visit our groups as we Talk it Over.

Two of our greatest assets are our powerful and meaningful weekend messages and our amazing and loving people.

Sermon-based small groups are the perfect opportunity to put them together and experience the best that The Compass Church has to offer. Each week we offer study questions to help you go deeper into the topics that Pastor Dale discusses in his teaching, and deeper into our lives as brothers and sisters in Christ.

If you have ever wondered about joining a group but aren't sure if you are ready to commit, join us at the Hobson campus, before or after your weekend worship hour and try out an on-campus sermon-based group. The discussion questions will follow the sermon series "Letters to the Candidates" from Pastor Dale. You'll be able to get a feel for what it's like to be part of a group, no matter where you are in your spiritual journey. If you enjoy your group you are welcome to join an off-campus small group when you're ready.

To sign up, visit Find a Group on our website and search "Sermon Based Groups" and choose one of the "Talk It Over" Groups. You can also write your interest on a Connection Card and turn it in during a weekend service. Join us as we talk about what it's like to use the bible as our everyday guide.

George Pradel will cut the ribbon at both services and Jason Altenbern, Community Relations Coordinator for Indian Prairie School District 204, will also be in attendance.

"Public servants provide important services to the Naperville people," said Ritch Sandford, Campus Pastor at The Compass Church 95th St. Campus. “But it goes beyond that. Their leadership builds community, something that we are pretty passionate about here at The Compass Church." This will be a day of celebrating and family fun!

THEOLOGY OF THE BIBLE What do Christians believe and practice? This course provides an overview of major teachings of the Christian church. We will move toward coherent expression of Christian doctrine by studying important Biblical texts and prominent historical developments and discuss why these beliefs are central and important for us.

INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Vincent Bacote is an Associate Professor of Theology and the Director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He has also taught at Northern Seminary and Fuller Theological Seminary. He is an author, a regular columnist for Comment (wrf.ca/comment) and has published numerous articles.

We are excited to share our seasonal events, groups and courses with you and challenge you to Connect, Grow, Serve, and Reach.

At the compass we are committed to helping adults grow spiritually and relationally. Spiritual transformation is the process of Christ being formed in us, and we think that happens in the context of a smaller group of people.

Faith is more than just a relationship with God. Faith should be lived out in the support and encouragement found in community with others. We believe that life change, and growth, happens best in the context of relationships. Some connect at an event, or meet in homes or coffee shops. Some meet just to discuss the weekend message, or grow spiritually by studying a topic together. Some volunteer and serve the community together, and some groups reach out by sharing their faith in a shared interest or activity together.

We recognize that everyone has the desire to be known, loved, and cared for and some even find healing and encouragement through CompassCare. Your spiritual growth is the heart and soul of The Compass Church and we want you to be part of a community where people support and encourage you.
