Reaching Our Neighbors Here

Community Impact provides the people of the Hobson Campus with opportunities to love our neighbors. We are focused on these areas:

Have you ever felt stuck, trapped, or alone? Are you eager for change, or desiring to have supportive people in your life who understand what you’re going through? If the answer is "yes," please join us at The Gathering.

The Gathering is a supportive and courageous community designed to help people grow in their ability to lead positive change for themselves and their families.

The Gathering meets most Thursday nights throughout the 2019-2020 school year, starting October 17. This loving, judgement-free community is made up of diverse individuals open to exploring what keeps them “stuck.” We’ll have dinner together and experience interactive learning tools designed to equip members to lead positive change in work, finances, and relationships. Dinner and childcare are provided.

We are looking for community members who are:

  • Living in the surrounding community
  • Able to dedicate time to leading positive change for themselves and their families
  • Representing diversity of income, work backgrounds, family mix, ethnicity, stage of life, etc., with priority given to parents earning below a living wage
  • Open to exploring the presence and guidance of a loving God

The Hobson Campus partners with Kids Hope USA to recruit, interview, train, and send loving individuals into local schools to mentor at-risk students. Hobson Campus has Kids Hope programs at Puffer Elementary School in Downers Grove and Scott Elementary School in Naperville. Mentors meet with a child one-on-one for one hour each week during the student’s lunch hour. Mentors build positive and encouraging relationships with a child by working on school-related projects, reading, or playing a game together. The following is required in order to serve with Kids Hope USA:

There are 361 families facing homelessness in six neighboring school districts. Homelessness looks less like living on the streets and more like sleeping on a friend’s couch, or nightly moving from PADS shelter to PADS shelter, or renting a hotel room from week-to-week, or even living out of a car. In partnership with local schools and homeless organizations, our church would like to see families move into affordable, long-term housing sooner and receive the services necessary to help them break out of the cycle of poverty.

Students are the top concern in our community. With an increase in the amount of pressure to perform, students are reporting record levels of stress, which leads to heightened levels of anxiety, depression, and drug usage. When you add the influence of social media to an already fragile state-of-mind, coping and resiliency skills plummet and thoughts of hopelessness and suicidal ideations increase. Our church wants students in our community know that we love and care about them.

How To Get Started With Community Impact

There are thousands of people living within a 10-mile radius of the Hobson Campus that are experiencing trauma or hard times. In our affluent communities, trauma, poverty, and homelessness can be difficult to detect. The Compass Church's mission is to take the hope of the gospel here, near, and far. Community Impact focuses on the HERE. So, if you'd like to join a team of people ready to impact our community with the love of Jesus, please take the FIRST STEP, and join us at our next Community Impact Training event. This training will help challenge our assumptions about serving those in need and help us learn new ways to better understand and serve those living in material, social, and emotional poverty contexts.

Join us for our upcoming Community Impact Training date:
